The Science

Antrodia cinnamomea is one of the most extensively studied functional mushrooms in the world. More than 1,000 peer-reviewed publications have examined its bioactive compounds, with liver metabolism, immune signaling, and oxidative-stress response the most studied areas. This page indexes that literature.

Antrodia cinnamomea Research Index

A guide to 1,281 peer-reviewed studies · 1991–2026

Antrodia cinnamomea is a fungus endemic to Taiwan. Over three decades it has accumulated 1,281 peer-reviewed studies and 23,731 citations. This index makes that body of work searchable: every entry states whether it is a clinical (human) study, which material was used — fruiting body, mycelium, or an isolated compound — and how many times peers have cited it.

This is a literature guide, not product information. Listing a study does not mean any product has that effect.

By theme

Chemistry, identification and cultivation

387 papers — the largest single category. It is not about effects but about which molecules the fungus contains, how they are identified, and how it is grown; it is also what the fruiting-body versus mycelium distinction rests on.

Cancer and tumour research

337 papers — the largest single theme in this field, and the only direction with registered clinical trials (see Clinical studies above). It is listed because it is objectively the bulk of the literature; this has no bearing on any product claim.

Liver and metabolism

One of the largest lines in the field (225 papers), mostly animal models.

Immunity and inflammation

147 papers.

Mitochondria, energy and ageing

130 papers. The backbone is the AMPK → Sirt1 → PGC-1α energy-sensing pathway, which is also central to ageing research.

Safety and toxicology

46 papers, including genotoxicity, teratogenicity and oral toxicity assessments.

Neurological

9 papers. A comparatively thin area.

Certifications & Standards

CNS16152 — Taiwan's Premium Grade Standard

CNS16152 is Taiwan's national standard for Antrodia cinnamomea products, established by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection. It specifies minimum requirements for triterpenoid content, polysaccharide content, heavy metal limits, microbial contamination limits, and extraction methodology.

Thryve's products exceed CNS16152 requirements, with 14.2% triterpenoid content — nearly double the minimum for premium certification. Every batch is independently tested and certified before release.

Science-Backed Quality Assurance

The quality standards applied to Thryve products are the same standards used by hospitals in Taiwan and Hong Kong when sourcing Antrodia cinnamomea for patient care. This reflects the direct involvement of Master Hsu Ming-Te, who has worked within these hospital systems throughout his career.

Our extraction facility operates under GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification, with full traceability from cultivation through extraction and packaging.
